A Letter to God

Every night, the hum of my laptop was the only lullaby I knew in my small studio apartment. As a remote data analyst, my world was measured in billable hours and rapid-fire emails that felt like a barrage of stone against my chest. I thought that by working non-stop, I was honoring my Nanay’s sacrifices back in the province, but my spirit felt hollow. The anxiety became a physical weight; my hands would tremble whenever a notification pinged, and I started dreading the sunrise because it just meant another cycle of invisible cages.

I stopped going to the local market for my favorite strawberry taho because I couldn't bear the thought of small talk. I felt like a fraud, successful on paper but crumbling in the silence of my room. One Tuesday, during a particularly heavy fog, my internet connection completely failed. I sat in the sudden, deafening quiet, staring at my reflection in the dark screen, and for the first time in years, I felt the sharp ache of my own loneliness. I realized I had been chasing a version of 'progress' that left no room for my own soul.

I stepped onto my tiny balcony, pulling a thick shawl tight against the biting Baguio cold. As the mist slowly began to lift, I whispered a desperate prayer, not for more work or more money, but for the courage to stop. I opened an old, dusty Bible I had kept on my shelf since college and let my eyes fall on a page I hadn't touched in years. In that moment, the frantic urge to control my future evaporated, replaced by a strange, overwhelming sense of presence that didn't demand anything from me at all.

HOPE's Response

A reply to the letter

It is a heavy burden to try and carry the weight of your family’s future entirely on your own shoulders. The exhaustion you feel is not a failure of your character; it is a signal from your heart that you were designed for rhythm and rest, not just constant productivity. Even in the competitive digital landscape, you are a human being, not a machine, and your worth is never tied to your output.

Remember the promise in Matthew 11:28, where Jesus invites the weary: 'Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.' This rest isn't just about sleeping; it is about shifting the burden of your 'enoughness' onto Him. You are allowed to be still. You are allowed to breathe without a screen in front of you. When you find yourself spinning in anxiety, invite the Lord into your workspace, acknowledging that He is the true Provider of your days.

A Prayer from HOPE

Heavenly Father, thank You for meeting me in my silence and my exhaustion. Please replace my frantic striving with Your perfect peace, and help me to see that my worth is secure in You alone, regardless of my accomplishments. Guide me in finding a sustainable balance that honors both my responsibilities and my need for rest in Your presence. In Jesus' name, Amen.
