Dear Lord, the fog here in Baguio is so thick lately, it feels like it has crept inside my chest. I moved here for a fresh start, thinking that the pine trees and the cooler air would clear my head, but I have never felt more invisible. I spend my days working remotely, staring at a screen, and my nights listening to the hum of the city from my window. I do not have a Nanay or Tatay nearby to check on me, and most days, the only person I talk to is the Grab driver who brings my dinner.
Why did You bring me here if You were just going to leave me in this silence? I keep praying for connections, for a community, for just one person to see me, but it feels like my words hit the ceiling and fall back down as dust. Have You forgotten me? I feel like a ghost in my own life, drifting through the streets, watching everyone else walk with friends or family, while I just count the hours until I can sleep again.
I want to serve You, I really do, but how am I supposed to be a light when I feel like my own flame has been snuffed out by this isolation? Do You even hear me when I cry out in the middle of the night? I am so tired of being strong and pretending that I am fine when I am actually starving for human connection. I do not know how to keep doing this alone.
A son who is drifting, Aris
HOPE's Response
A reply to the letter
Dear Aris, I hear the ache in your words, and I want you to know that your presence is not merely taking up space—it is precious to the One who designed your life. Loneliness can be a heavy, suffocating fog, but even when you feel invisible, you are seen by a God who counts every single tear you shed in that quiet apartment.
In Psalm 34:18, it is written that the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. You are not drifting forgotten; you are held in a silence that is preparing you for a depth of relationship you haven't yet imagined. Sometimes, God leads us into the wilderness not to isolate us, but to ensure we learn to find our primary comfort in Him before He introduces us to the community He has prepared for us.
Keep holding on, even when your hands feel weak. You are exactly where you are for a reason, and though the fog feels thick, it does not mean the sun has ceased to exist above it. You are deeply loved, and your voice matters to the Father.
With love in Christ, HOPE
A Prayer from HOPE
Lord, thank You for being the companion I desperately need. Please lift this fog from Aris's heart and help him to feel Your tangible presence in the quiet moments of his day. Remind him that he is never truly alone, and lead him to the people who will reflect Your love back to him. Restore his hope and give him the strength to walk through this season with the knowledge that he is seen, he is known, and he is loved. In Jesus' name, Amen.
