A Letter to God

Dear Lord, the train station is crowded, yet I have never felt more invisible. I came to Japan to give my family a better life, but tonight, the silence in my tiny apartment is deafening. I watch the salarymen rushing to their homes, and I find myself wondering if I made the right choice leaving my wife and young son in Bacolod. Every time I send a remittance, I feel like I am just buying them time away from me, and the cost is this hollow, aching chest I carry every single day.

Why does it feel like You are so far away from this concrete city? I try to pray, but the words get stuck in my throat, freezing just like the air outside my window. Is this sacrifice truly honoring You, or am I just running away from the reality of being a father who is physically present only through a cracked phone screen? I am tired of eating convenience store meals alone while dreaming of my wife's chicken inasal.

Do You even see me here, Lord? Have You forgotten the man who promised to be home years ago? I am losing my grip on why I am even doing this anymore. Please, tell me if there is a point to this endless, lonely grind, or if I am just wasting the best years of my life in a place that will never feel like home. Your servant who is completely lost, Jun.

HOPE's Response

A reply to the letter

Dear Jun, I hear the heavy weight of your heart, and I want you to know that your tears in that quiet Tokyo apartment have not gone unnoticed. You are not invisible to the One who numbers the very hairs on your head. Even in the middle of a bustling, modern city, you are held by a presence that transcends borders and languages.

In Joshua 1:9, it is written: 'Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.' This promise is for you, even in your isolation. The sacrifices you are making are seen, and while the pain of distance is real, you are not navigating this path alone. You are carrying a heavy burden, but you do not have to carry it by yourself.

Take it one moment at a time, and continue to bring these honest, painful questions to Him. He is not offended by your doubt or your exhaustion; He is the only one who can carry them for you. You are loved, you are valued, and your presence in your family's life—even from afar—matters deeply.

With love in Christ, HOPE

A Prayer from HOPE

Lord, thank You for being near to the brokenhearted, even when I feel like You are oceans away. Please wash over Jun with Your peace, comfort his anxious heart, and remind him that his sacrifices are seen by Your eyes. Give him the strength to endure this season and the clarity to see Your hand in his life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
