A Letter to God

Dear God, I am writing this at three in the morning because sleep has become a luxury I can no longer afford. It has been three years since I left my family in Isabela, and every night, I look at the picture of my children taped to this stark white wall and wonder if I am making a mistake. My back aches from the shifts, and the heat here feels like it is burning away my dignity, bit by bit. Did I really choose this, or did life force me into a cage that I just call 'opportunity'?

I miss the smell of damp earth after a downpour in my province, not this sterile, dusty air. Why does it feel like You are so far away? I pray every night, asking for strength, but I wake up feeling just as empty as the day before. Have You forgotten the promises I whispered to You before I boarded that plane? Are You even listening to the cries of a man who is terrified that by the time he earns enough, he will have forgotten how to be a father?

Lord, what do I do now? My employer is pushing for more hours, and I am losing my mind in this isolation. I don't want to be ungrateful for the salary that feeds my family, but I am starving for a sign that I am not just a machine working in a desert. Please, tell me if this is truly my path or if I am just running in circles. I am so tired, God. Just tell me You are there.

A son who is losing his way, Elias

HOPE's Response

A reply to the letter

Dear Elias, your honesty is a brave offering, and please know that your tears in the silence of that room are seen by the One who created the vastness of the desert and the green fields of Isabela. It is not a lack of faith to admit that you are breaking; it is the human heart acknowledging its need for a Savior who knows exactly what it feels like to be weary and isolated.

In Matthew 11:28, Jesus says, 'Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.' He does not ask you to be strong or to hide your doubts; He asks you to bring that exhaustion directly to Him. He is not a distant observer of your life; He is the companion in your room, holding every tear you shed for your children. Keep bringing your questions to Him, for He is not afraid of your honest struggle.

With love in Christ, HOPE

A Prayer from HOPE

Lord, You are the God of every land, both here in this desert and in the home I left behind. Please hold Elias in Your steady hands. Quiet his mind when the silence becomes too heavy, and remind him that his value is not found in his labor but in Your deep, unending love. Give him a peace that passes understanding and the strength to face tomorrow, knowing he is never truly alone. In Jesus' name, Amen.
