A Letter to God

Dear Lord, I have been working here in Tokyo for three years now, sending every yen I earn back to my parents in Iloilo. My Tatay keeps asking for more money for his dialysis, and my Nanay writes me letters about the house needing repairs, but they have no idea that I am drowning. I eat instant noodles alone every night in my tiny studio apartment, watching the city lights blur because my eyes are heavy with tears I cannot afford to shed.

Why does it feel like the more I sacrifice, the further away You are? I keep praying for a promotion or a breakthrough, but all I get is more exhaustion. Have You forgotten me here in this land of strangers? I feel like I am just a machine that generates remittance, a ghost haunting a foreign land while my real life passes me by back home.

I am so tired, Lord. My faith feels like an ember struggling to stay lit against the cold wind of this place. If You are really there, why do You keep me in this cycle of endless labor? What do I do when I am too weak to carry the weight of my family’s future any longer? Please, just tell me if this pain has any meaning at all.

HOPE's Response

A reply to the letter

Dear Elias,

I hear the weariness in your voice and the immense burden you carry, not just of finances, but of the heart. Please know that you are never just a machine or a provider; you are a beloved son, and your value to God is not measured by the remittances you send or the sacrifices you make. He sees you in that quiet apartment, and He sees every tear you have held back.

In Matthew 11:28, Jesus says, 'Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.' He is not asking you to carry this weight alone until you break. He is inviting you to bring your exhaustion and your doubt to Him. It is okay to be tired, and it is okay to be honest about your frustration; God’s shoulders are big enough to hold your questions without turning away. You are not forgotten in the distance; you are being carried through it.

With love in Christ, HOPE

A Prayer from HOPE

Lord, I surrender this heavy heart to You tonight. Thank You for seeing me even when I feel invisible and for knowing the silent prayers I cannot bring myself to speak. Please give me the strength to endure, but more importantly, give me the peace to know that I am never truly alone. Guide my steps and bring comfort to my family back home, as I lean on Your promise of rest. In Jesus' name, Amen.
