A Letter to God

Dear Lord, the desert heat outside my window feels nothing compared to the cold ache in my chest tonight. I have spent three years here in Dubai, working double shifts to send money home to Tarlac, yet my heart feels more hollow with every passing peso. I look at the screens of my phone, scrolling through pictures of my children growing up without me, and I wonder if the sacrifice is worth the cost of my presence in their lives.

Why does it feel like You have led me to this desert, yet left me to wander alone? I do everything right—I send my remittances, I support my Tatay’s medical needs, and I try to stay faithful. But when I am here in this cramped room after a fourteen-hour shift, all I feel is the crushing weight of silence. Have You forgotten the man who prays to You in the middle of the night while the city outside keeps sleeping?

I am exhausted, Lord. I am tired of playing the strong provider when inside I am crumbling like dry earth. What do I do now? Do I keep pushing for the sake of the future, or am I trading my soul and my family’s warmth for money that can never buy back the time we have lost? I feel like I am fading into the background of my own life, and I am terrified that by the time I finally go home, I will be a stranger to the people who are supposed to know me best.

Your servant who is losing his way, Elias

HOPE's Response

A reply to the letter

Dear Elias, your honesty before God is not a sign of failure, but a testament to the depth of your love for your family. The heaviness you feel is a reflection of the sacred burden you carry, and please know that He sees every tear you shed in the silence of your room, far from the life you long for.

In Psalm 34:18, it is written, 'The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.' You are not wandering in the desert alone; even when the path feels impossible and the distance seems unbearable, He is your constant companion. Your worth is not defined by the weight of your remittances or the endurance of your labor, but by the love He has for you as His child.

Do not rush to find the 'answer' to your struggle tonight. Instead, allow yourself the grace to be weak in His presence, for it is there that His strength becomes yours. He knows the faces of your children better than you do, and He is holding them even as He holds you.

With love in Christ, HOPE

A Prayer from HOPE

Heavenly Father, I lift up Elias to You in the middle of his exhaustion and doubt. Lord, You know the specific weight of his sacrifice and the distance that keeps him from his loved ones. Please pour Your peace into the silence of his room and remind him that he is never alone. Give him clarity for his future, strength for his work, and the assurance that Your presence bridges every mile. May he feel Your embrace tonight, comforting his tired soul and renewing his hope. In Jesus' name, Amen.
