A Letter to God

Dear God, I am writing this while staring at the blinking lights of Dubai from my small room in a cramped flat in Deira. I left my heart back in Iloilo, but here, I feel like I am just a ghost in a machine, working for a future I am too exhausted to even dream about anymore. Every day, I wake up before the sun, squeeze into a crowded bus, and serve customers who treat me like I am invisible. Is this really the plan? I came here to give my Nanay a better life, but I am losing the very life I was meant to enjoy.

Why does it feel like You are a million miles away? I pray every night, but all I hear is the hum of the air conditioner and the muffled voices of my roommates. Have You forgotten me in this desert? Sometimes I look at the picture of my family on my phone and I barely recognize the smile on my own face. I am so tired of being 'strong' for everyone back home. I am tired of pretending that every 'opo' and 'sir' at work doesn't chip away at my soul a little more.

What do I do now when the only thing keeping me here is the fear of going home empty-handed? If I quit, I fail them. If I stay, I fear I am losing who I am. Lord, if You are still there, please tell me why this sacrifice feels like a slow death instead of a blessing. I am not asking for a miracle of wealth, just a reason to keep breathing through this desert heat.

A son who is burning out, Jayson

HOPE's Response

A reply to the letter

Dear Jayson, I hear the depth of your weariness and the heavy weight you carry across oceans. Please know that your worth is not tied to the remittance you send or the sacrifices you endure; your value was settled once and for all at the Cross. It is not a sign of failure to feel broken when you are being poured out, and you do not have to carry this exhaustion in silence before the One who knows your name.

In Psalm 34:18, the Scripture says, 'The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.' He is not a distant observer in your apartment in Deira; He is the comfort in the quiet, and He hears every unspoken prayer that you are too tired to voice. You do not have to be the hero of your own story every single day. Lay your fatigue at His feet and allow Him to hold the pieces you feel you are losing. You are seen, you are loved, and you are not forgotten.

With love in Christ, HOPE

A Prayer from HOPE

Heavenly Father, thank You for seeing Jayson in the quiet corners of his room. Lord, replace his spirit of burnout with Your supernatural peace. When the weight of expectation feels crushing, remind him that he is held by Your hand, not by his own strength. Guide him, restore his joy, and let him feel Your presence in the middle of this desert. In Jesus' name, Amen.
