A Letter to God

Dear Lord, the city lights outside my window are so bright, yet I have never felt more invisible. I came here to build a future for my children back in Iloilo, but I feel like I am losing my own soul in the process. Every day, I scrub floors and prepare meals for a family that barely acknowledges my presence, and I find myself counting the seconds until my day off just so I can cry without my employers hearing me.

I keep asking myself if this sacrifice is really worth it. My youngest daughter, who was only six when I left, barely recognizes me on our weekly video calls. She asks when I am coming home, and I have no answer to give her because the debts from our house renovation keep piling up. Tatay is getting old, and I am not there to help him with his medication. Why did You place me so far away? Have You forgotten the promises I made to my family, or have You simply forgotten me?

I try to be strong and keep my faith, but tonight, the silence in this tiny room is suffocating. I feel like a ghost haunting someone else’s life. I don’t know how to keep doing this for another two years. Please, tell me why I am here. Tell me that You still see me in this sea of high-rise buildings and neon lights, because right now, I feel completely adrift.

Your servant who is breaking, Elena

HOPE's Response

A reply to the letter

Dear Elena,

I hear the weight of your exhaustion and the ache of a mother’s heart longing for home. Please know that you are never invisible to the One who knit you together. Even when the city lights dim your spirit and the distance feels like an unbridgeable ocean, you are held in the palm of His hand.

In Matthew 11:28, Jesus says, 'Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.' He is not asking for your strength; He is inviting you to bring your tears, your guilt, and your emptiness to Him. Your sacrifice is seen, and your love for your children is a reflection of His own sacrificial heart. You do not have to carry the future alone; give the burden of 'what comes next' to Him, and let Him be your home, even while you are miles away.

With love in Christ, HOPE

A Prayer from HOPE

Lord, thank You for seeing Elena even when she feels lost in the shadows. Please embrace her heart with Your peace, soothe her exhaustion, and remind her that she is deeply loved and never forgotten. Grant her strength for each day, comfort her in her loneliness, and keep her family under Your protection as she works to provide for them. In Jesus' name, Amen.
