Dear Lord, the silence in this apartment is so loud it rings in my ears. I am thousands of miles away from the home I sacrificed everything to build, and yet, I feel like I am losing my grip on the people I am working for. I stare at the screen of my phone, waiting for a message from my daughter in Iloilo, but the days go by with only cold, short replies. Did I make the wrong choice? Is the money I send home really worth the cost of missing her graduation, her heartbreaks, and her growing up?
Why does it feel like I am trading my life away for a future that is becoming more distant every day? Sometimes I walk through the streets of Milan, surrounded by beauty I cannot afford to enjoy, and I wonder if You have forgotten me here. I am so tired of the smell of cleaning chemicals and the weight of being the 'provider' who is never actually present. Have I become just a source of funds to them?
I don't know who I am anymore outside of this uniform. I wake up, I work, I cry, I sleep, and I repeat. Please, tell me why I am still here. If You are supposed to be my strength, why do I feel so fragile, like I might shatter if anyone asks me one more time how I am doing? I need an answer that isn't just silence.
Your servant who is fading, Elena
HOPE's Response
A reply to the letter
Dear Elena,
I hear the ache in your heart, and I want you to know that your tears in that cold apartment are not invisible to the One who numbers the very hairs on your head. It is not a failure to feel lost when you are carrying such an immense burden of love and duty. You are not just a provider; you are a mother whose heart is stretched across oceans, and that pain is a testament to your sacrifice.
In Joshua 1:9, God tells us, 'Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.' He is not just in Iloilo; He is right there in the silence of your room in Milan. You are not defined by your labor or your exhaustion, but by the love that fuels your endurance. Take a breath, Elena, and allow yourself to simply be held by Him today, without the weight of expectations.
With love in Christ, HOPE
A Prayer from HOPE
Lord, thank You for holding Elena even when she feels like she is drifting. Please wrap Your arms around her heart, soften the distance between her and her daughter, and remind her that her identity is found in You, not in her work. Give her a moment of peace in her weariness and the strength to see the beauty of Your presence in her daily life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
