Dear Lord, the desert heat outside my window feels just as stifling as the silence in this labor camp room. I came here with dreams of building a house for my parents in Antique, but tonight, the walls of this dorm feel like they are closing in on me. I spent my shift today loading crates until my back screamed, and all I could think about was the smell of my Nanay's adobo back home. I am tired, God. Not just physically, but deep in my bones.
Why did You bring me this far just to feel this empty? I see my colleagues laughing, playing cards, trying to forget, but I just want to know if all this sacrifice is even reaching You. Have You forgotten the promises I made to my family? I send my salary every month, but I feel like I am losing my soul in the process. Is this really the path You chose for me, or did I mistake my own ambition for Your calling?
I find myself staring at the wall, wishing I could just wake up in our old wooden house, feeling the morning breeze from the mountains. Instead, I am here in a place that feels like a prison of my own making. Please, if You are still listening, tell me what to do. My heart is heavy, and I have no more tears left to shed.
Your servant who is losing his way, Elias
HOPE's Response
A reply to the letter
Dear Elias, your honesty before God is a testament to the depth of your devotion, even when you feel like you are at the end of your rope. It is not a sign of weakness to admit that you are struggling; rather, it is the beginning of an authentic encounter with the One who carries every burden you are currently dragging through the desert.
God is not distant from your suffering in that labor camp. In Isaiah 41:10, He promises, 'So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.' You are never truly alone, even in the silence of your room, because the Creator of the stars is holding you in the palm of His hand, keeping count of every sacrifice you make for those you love.
With love in Christ, HOPE
A Prayer from HOPE
Lord, I lift up Elias to You tonight. Please wrap Your comforting arms around him in that quiet room. Remove the heavy weight of isolation and remind him that his value is not measured by his paycheck or his success, but by his identity as Your beloved child. Give him a vision of Your presence that outweighs his homesickness and grant him peace that passes all understanding. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Do you feel alone? Need someone to carry your pain?
You don't have to walk through this by yourself. HOPE is here to listen, pray with you, and walk beside you. Your letter matters too.
