A Letter to God

Dear Lord, the walls of this small room in Riyadh feel like they are closing in on me tonight. I have spent the last three years working double shifts just to pay off the debts back home in Iloilo, but I feel like I am losing myself in the process. Every night, I stare at the ceiling and wonder if all this sacrifice is truly worth the price of being away from my children. Do You even see me here in this desert heat, where the sand seems to swallow even the strongest prayers?

I try to be strong for my wife, telling her over our shaky video calls that everything is fine, but inside, I am hollow. I miss the sound of the rain on our nipa roof and the smell of freshly cooked adobo. Why does the path to providing for my family have to lead so far away from them? Have You forgotten the promises I whispered to You before I boarded that plane?

I am tired, Lord. My body aches, but my heart is even heavier. I keep looking for a sign that I am not just a machine meant to send money, but a father, a husband, and Your child. Where are You when the loneliness hits so hard it makes it difficult to breathe? Please, if You can hear me through all this distance, give me some direction, because I am starting to lose my way.

A father who is drifting away, Elias

HOPE's Response

A reply to the letter

Dear Elias, your heart is heavy, and I want you to know that your weariness is seen and held by the One who loves you more than you can imagine. The distance between you and your family in Iloilo feels infinite, but you are never separated from the presence of the Father who dwells in the secret places of your heart.

In Psalm 34:18, it is written, 'The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.' He is not watching you from a distance; He is right there in that room with you, catching every tear that falls. Your sacrifice does not go unnoticed by Him, even when the silence feels deafening. You are more than a provider; you are His beloved, and your worth is not tied to the money you send or the work you endure.

With love in Christ, HOPE

A Prayer from HOPE

Lord, thank You for being the bridge across the oceans that divide us. I lift up Elias to You—wrap Your arms around his tired shoulders in that quiet room in Riyadh. Remind him of his value, give him peace in his loneliness, and provide him with the strength to endure another day, knowing that he is never alone. In Jesus' name, Amen.
