Dear God, the desert wind outside this labor camp feels like it is stealing the last bits of my breath. I am thousands of miles away from my family in Iloilo, and for the first time in ten years, I feel like I am completely hollow. My wife sent me a photo of our youngest graduating, but I wasn't there to clap, and all I could offer was a digital message that felt cold and insufficient. Why does this sacrifice always feel like a slow kind of death?
I have worked so hard under this scorching sun, sending every extra riyal home just to make sure they have a future. But Lord, where are You when the loneliness hits at 3 AM? I look at the cracked walls of this room and wonder if You have forgotten the man who keeps giving until he has nothing left. Did I make the right choice to leave? Is this really what You intended for my life, or have I just traded my soul for a house and a secure bank account?
I am tired of being strong for everyone else. I am tired of the video calls where I have to force a smile while my heart is breaking into pieces. Do You see me, or am I just another ghost working in the shadows of this foreign city? I am begging for a sign that I haven't wasted my life, but all I feel is the silence of the desert.
HOPE's Response
A reply to the letter
Dear Jovito, I hear the depth of your weariness and the heavy burden you carry for those you love in Iloilo. Please know that your sacrifice is seen—not just by your family, but by the One who counts every tear you have shed in the quiet of your room. Your worth is not measured by the money you send home or your physical presence in a photograph; you are deeply cherished simply because you are His.
In Psalm 34:18, it is written: 'The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.' He is not distant, and He is certainly not silent in your suffering. He is sitting in that room with you, holding the pieces you feel are falling apart. You are not a ghost, and you are not a machine; you are a beloved son, and He invites you to stop carrying the weight of the future alone and simply rest in His presence tonight.
With love in Christ, HOPE
A Prayer from HOPE
Lord, I lift up Jovito to You. Please wrap Your arms around him in that distant land and replace his exhaustion with Your supernatural peace. Let him feel Your presence in the silence of the night, and remind him that his labor of love is valued in Your sight. Heal his heart, mend his loneliness, and provide him the clarity and rest he desperately needs. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Do you feel alone? Need someone to carry your pain?
