A Letter to God

Dear Lord, the walls of this tiny apartment in Tokyo are closing in on me. I stare at the neon lights outside my window, but they feel so cold compared to the warmth of my home in Iloilo. I have been here for three years working as a caregiver, and while I am grateful for the salary that helps my family, I am drowning in this silence. Why does it feel like my sacrifice is never enough? My children are growing up through screen recordings, and sometimes I wonder if they even remember the sound of my actual voice or just the digital hum of our video calls.

I find myself walking the streets at night, just to avoid sitting in this room. I miss the noise of the market back home, the smell of fresh fish frying, and the chaotic comfort of my family sitting together on our porch. Lord, have You forgotten me in this concrete maze? I am doing everything right—I send my remittances on time, I work extra shifts, I pray every day—but my heart feels like a withered leaf. What do I do now when the loneliness becomes a physical ache in my chest?

Am I just a machine meant to sustain everyone else, only to be left empty at the end of the day? I don't want to complain, because I know many others have it harder, but I am tired. I am so tired of being strong for everyone. Please, tell me I am not invisible to You.

Your son who feels lost, Junjun

HOPE's Response

A reply to the letter

Dear Junjun, I hear the heavy weight of your heart, and I want you to know that your loneliness is not a sign of failure. You are not a machine, and your worth is not measured by the remittances you send or the hours you sacrifice. You are a beloved child of God, and He sees every tear shed in that quiet room in Tokyo.

In Psalm 34:18, it is written, 'The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.' He is not distant; He is sitting with you in that apartment, holding the pieces of your heart that you feel are slipping away. Your family may only see the provider, but God sees the man behind the provider—the one who dreams, misses his home, and carries the burden of love.

Instead of trying to be strong on your own, I invite you to bring this specific exhaustion to Him in your quietest moments. You do not need to perform for God. Let Him be your home when you are thousands of miles away from the one you know. You are never invisible to the One who knit you together.

With love in Christ, HOPE

A Prayer from HOPE

Dear God, thank You for seeing Junjun in his solitude. Please wrap Your comforting arms around him in Tokyo and remind him that he is never alone. Heal his weary heart, sustain him in his sacrifice, and bridge the distance between him and his family with Your peace. Help him to trust that You are working in ways he cannot yet see. In Jesus' name, Amen.
