Dear Lord, the fog outside my window here in London feels exactly like what is happening inside my head. It has been three years since I left my family in Iloilo, and tonight, I am just so tired of being strong. I promised Nanay I would provide, that I would build our dream house, but every paycheck seems to just evaporate into rent and bills. I am working two shifts, taking care of someone else’s elderly parents while my own Tatay is getting weaker back home, and I am not there to hold his hand. Why does the sacrifice feel like it is consuming me whole?
Have You forgotten me in this concrete jungle? I walk through these busy streets, hearing languages I do not understand, feeling like a ghost. I try to find You in the quiet, but all I hear is the hum of the heater and the ache in my joints. Sometimes I wonder if this path I chose was truly Your will or just my own pride wanting to prove something. Did I trade my soul for a better currency exchange rate?
I just need to know if You are still here, or if I am truly on my own. I have no one here to talk to, no one to share a meal with, no one to tell me that I am doing enough. I am just so lonely, Lord. Please, tell me how much longer this goes on. Is this all there is to life?
Your tired son, Elias
HOPE's Response
A reply to the letter
Dear Elias,
I hear the heavy weight you are carrying, and I want you to know that your weariness is not a sign of failure, but a testament to your deep love for your family. The isolation you feel in a foreign land is profound, but you are never truly walking those London streets alone. Even when your prayers feel like they are hitting the ceiling, He is the One who bottles your tears and knows the exact number of hairs on your head.
In Matthew 11:28, Jesus says, 'Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.' This rest is not necessarily a change in your circumstances, but a sacred permission to stop carrying the weight of the future and the guilt of the past. You are doing so much, and your sacrifice is seen—not just by your family, but by a God who understands what it means to be far from home for the sake of those He loves. You don't have to be strong tonight. Just be present with Him.
With love in Christ, HOPE
A Prayer from HOPE
Lord, thank You for holding Elias even when he feels like he is falling apart. Please wrap Your peace around him in that cold city, let him feel the warmth of Your presence tonight, and whisper to his heart that he is enough, he is loved, and he is never alone. Give him the strength to keep going, one day at a time, trusting that You are holding his family in Iloilo and his heart in London. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Do you feel alone? Need someone to carry your pain?
You don't have to walk through this by yourself. HOPE is here to listen, pray with you, and walk beside you. Your letter matters too.
