Dear Lord, I am writing this while staring at the cold walls of my labor camp bunk. Everyone else is asleep, but my heart is too heavy with the weight of being so far away from my children in Bukidnon. I came here to give them a better life, to send them to good schools so they wouldn't have to toil under the sun like I did, but lately, I feel like I am losing them instead. My youngest didn't even recognize my voice during our last video call, and my wife sounds so tired of being both father and mother to them.
Why does it feel like the more I provide for their future, the more I lose my place in their present? Did You really want this for us—this distance that grows wider every time I send a remittance? I work fourteen hours a day, cleaning high-rise windows under the scorching desert heat, yet I feel like I am drowning in a sea of loneliness that no amount of money can dry up. Have You forgotten the man who promised to be a provider but now feels like nothing more than a bank account to his own family?
I want to go home, Lord, but I have debts to pay. I am trapped in this loop of duty and longing, and I do not know how to hold on anymore. Where are You in these nights when I have no one to talk to but the ceiling? Please, tell me if this sacrifice has a purpose, or if I am just throwing my best years away for a house that feels empty even when I am there.
HOPE's Response
A reply to the letter
Dear Jayson, I hear the ache in your words and the immense love that drives your sacrifice. It is a heavy burden to carry the weight of a family's future on your shoulders while feeling your own heart fracture from the distance. Please know that your longing is not a sign of weakness; it is a testament to how deeply you cherish those you have left behind in Bukidnon.
In Psalm 34:18, it is written: 'The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.' He is not distant, Jayson; He is sitting with you in that room, witnessing every tear you shed and every prayer you whisper into the silence. He sees the father you are, not just the provider, and He holds your family in His hands even when you feel like you are losing your connection to them.
Take heart, for your efforts are not in vain, and your identity is not tied to your capacity to work or send money. You are known, you are loved, and you are being held. Lean into His strength when yours runs dry, and trust that He is the bridge across the distance that you cannot cross alone.
With love in Christ, HOPE
A Prayer from HOPE
Lord, thank You for Jayson and for every father working far from home. I lift up his heart to You tonight—let him feel Your presence in that cold room. Surround his family in Bukidnon with Your protection and comfort. Remind him that he is never alone and that You are guiding his path even when the road ahead is blurred by his tears. Give him peace in the middle of his struggle and a renewed sense of purpose. In Jesus' name, Amen.
