"So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."

Understanding the Verse

This verse is the foundational truth of our existence. It declares that we are not accidents of nature or mere products of chance. Instead, we are intentional creations, fashioned uniquely by the Creator to reflect His own nature, character, and love. Being made in God's image means we possess inherent worth, dignity, and a capacity for relationship with Him that no other part of creation shares. In our daily lives, especially in the struggles of the modern world, it is easy to feel small or forgotten. However, this verse reminds us that we carry a 'divine imprint.' When we recognize this truth, our view of ourselves and our neighbors changes. We stop comparing ourselves to others and start living as people who represent the heartbeat of God on earth, tasked with reflecting His kindness and truth to everyone we meet.

A Story to Remember

In a small barrio in Bicol, Mang Lito was a master woodcarver known for his intricate saints and furniture. One day, a young boy named Paolo brought him a piece of scrap wood, twisted and stained, found near the riverbank. 'This is nothing but rubbish, Mang Lito,' the boy sighed. 'It is ugly and of no use to anyone.'

Mang Lito smiled, took the wood, and spent the entire week cleaning, sanding, and carving. When the villagers finally saw the finished piece, they were stunned. It was a beautiful, elegant frame holding a mirror. Mang Lito called Paolo back to the shop and said, 'You saw rubbish because you only looked at the surface. I saw the grain beneath, the strength within, and the purpose I intended for it.'

He handed the mirror to the boy and said, 'Look closely. You are like this wood, Paolo. People may look at your circumstances and call you common, but you were fashioned by the Master Carver. He did not just use His hands; He used His own image to shape you. Your worth does not come from what others say you are, but from the signature of the One who spent His love creating you.'
